Echo Pop leads Amazon speaker refresh

Amazon has updated its Echo speaker line with a new $40 Echo Pop, and the Echo Show 5 Kids and Echo Show 5 smart displays.

The Echo Pop represents the first smart speaker from the company we’ve seen since the Echo Studio debuted first in 2019. Meanwhile, the Show 5 is a refresh on the 2021 model.

The Echo Auto second-gen, announced in the fall of last year, is now available in the UK, Canada France Germany Australia Spain and Japan.

Let’s dig into the details of each new release.

Amazon Echo Pop

It looks as if Amazon has sliced the latest version of the Echo Dot with the AZ2 Neural edge processor. The Echo Dot also features the ability to pair up with Eero Mesh routers.

The front-facing speakers should make it a great option for those who want to hide a speaker in a corner.

You can also choose from four different colors: white, teal, lavender and charcoal.

Amazon claims that the new Show is faster and has better audio, even though it is virtually identical to the 2021 Echo Show 5..

Amazon notes that the third-gen version is 20% faster. This means you can watch the news or listen to Spotify or check what’s going on with your video doorbell.

The internal speaker was also upgraded. This means that the bass is “doubled”. A redesigned array of microphones also ensures voices are picked up more easily.

You can get it for $90, in either charcoal, white or Blue.

Amazon Echo Show 5 Kids

This version of the Show 5 displays a space theme at the rear of the display and promotes Amazon’s range of child-friendly features.

Alexa’s wiring is different here as it always has been. This means that jokes and questions about homework are handled more responsibly.

Amazon Kids+, the company’s subscription-based service that offers age-appropriate audiobooks and games, is also included.

The single design shown above is available for $100.
