Nest Thermostat gets Matter support

Matter Support is now available for Google’s Nest Thermostat. This means that Apple Home can be used without any additional hardware.

The Google Nest Community Blog announced the move, which means that the Smart thermostat is the first smart home device to support the new standard. The rollout will be completed in the next few weeks.

  • The matter is a mess, but there is still hope

Apple Home App users with Nest Thermostats can now adjust temperature, control fans and change mode from within the app. They can also ask , Siri, to do this.

This means that the thermostat is compatible with any Matter compatible device. It can be used with other smart sensors, as long as they are aligned.

We should point out that not all Nest Thermostat models will be eligible for support. This is only applicable to the 2020 model.

The verge reports that the company is looking into bringing support for its other models, including the original Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat e. However, there’s no concrete news just yet.

The outlet notes that users will also be able to pair their Nest Thermostats with other Matter compatible apps via a Matter code, once the update is rolled out.

The iOS app is still awaiting an update and only the Android app can access Matter. This makes it difficult to add this device to Apple Home.

You’ll need to use the Matter pairing code to add the thermostat to Apple Home.
